Summary

This new edition of the report contains the results of an annual survey presented by the chair of the Standing Committee "Dairy Policies and Economics" at the IDF World Dairy Summit, New Zealand, October 2001, on milk production, industrial milk processing, trade in dairy products, development of demand and consumption, prices for 2000, as well as some dairy product information and forecasts for 2001. 3 papers from the WDS Forum are included: The WTO agreement and the Indian dairy industry: what can we learn from the first 5 years?; impacts of liberalizing world trade in dairy products; prospects for world dairy markets. The dairy situation in each of 53 countries is summarized and statistics are given in the annex.
