Summary

For cryogenic refrigeration applications below 50 °C, R23 is widely used. However, since its extremely high GWP (14,800), the development of an alternative refrigerant is necessary as soon as possible to comply with the Kigali amendment. One of the olefinbased candidates, R1132a (1,1difluoroethene, GWP=3) is a possible candidate since its vapor pressure is closed to R23. Although a few mixture refrigerants have been proposed, thermophysical properties of the pure component have not been fully studied. In this report, the theoretical cycle performances of R1132a and its mixtures have been studied based on vapor pressure measurement results obtained in the temperature range from 100 °C to 0 °C.
