Summary

A GENERAL APPROACH IS PROPOSED TO THE PROBLEM OF MULTIPLE-WELL ATOMIC POTENTIALS IN AMORPHOUS SYSTEMS. TYPICAL POTENTIAL OF THE NON-ONE-WELL TYPE ARE DOUBLE-WELL AND CRITICAL AND CAN BE CHARACTERIZED BY ANOMALOUSLY SMALL QUASI-ELASTIC CONSTANTS OF THE ATOMIC MOTION. EXPRESSIONS DESCRIBE THE FORM OF TYPICAL TWO-WELL POTENTIALS AND THE ENERGIES OF THE TWO-LEVEL TUNNEL STATES IN THEM. THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF SUCH STATES TO THE LOW TEMPERATURE SPECIFIC HEAT AND THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY ARE CONSIDERED.
