PERIODS WITHOUT REFRIGERATION DURING TRANSFER OPERATIONS BETWEEN COLD STORE AND TRANSPORT VEHICLE AND INSULATED TRANSPORT ARE GENERALLY CONSIDERED AS WEAK LINKS IN COLD CHAINS. THE HEATING OF PRECOOLED CARGO DURING LOADING AND CARRIAGE CAN BE PREDICTED WITH THE AID OF GENERAL THERMODYNAMIC MODELS. THESE MODELS ARE APPLICABLE TO AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS IF THE NECESSARY THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES AND TRANSFER PARAMETERS ARE KNOWN. DERIVED COMPUTER PROGRAMS, GRAPHICAL MODELS AND NOMOGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE TOGETHER WITH THE NECESSARY THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF PRODUCTS AND MATERIALS. THE ACTUAL CARGO TEMPERATURES DURING TRANSFER AND TRANSPORT PROCESSES RANGE SATISFACTORY WITHIN THE PREDICTABLE TIME-TEMPERATURE COMBINATIONS.
