Summary

The authors present the results of a comparative experimental study of the operation of a hermetic reciprocating compressor, part of a refrigerating unit, during its retrofit to new refrigerants that are not harmful to the ozone layer (R134a and R152a). The influence of these fluids on the main thermo-energy characteristics of the compressor was studied, along with the thermal constraints that those elements have to withstand in a wide range of operating regimes.
