Summary

THE FIRST LNG PEAKSHAVING PLANT HAS BEEN PUT IN OPERATION WITH 680 NORMAL CUBIC METER/HOUR LIQUEFYING AND 5,000 M3 STORAGE CAPACITY. THE SYSTEM IS A FIVE STAGE MODIFIED CASCADE WITH A CIRCULATING REFRIGERANT MIXTURE OF NITROGEN, METHANE, ETHYLENE, PROPANE AND BUTANE. TO REDUCE THE POWER CONSUMPTION A THERMODYNAMIC ANALYSIS WAS MADE AIMING AT IRREVERSIBILITIES OCCURRING IN THIS CYCLE. THE LOSS DUE TO IRREVERSIBLE HEAT EXCHANGE WAS FOUND TO BE MAINLY INFLUENCED BY THE RELATIVELY LARGE TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE IN THE RANGE OF 130-180 K. ACCORDING TO THIS ANALYSIS THE SPECIFIC POWER CONSUMPTION CAN BE REDUCED BY 5-10%.
