Summary
The paper gives a general view on heat pumps which are able to contribute to the reduction of fuel used for heating at moderately low temperatures. The conclusion can be summarized as follows: These heat pumps are very cost effective when they are combined with summer cooling at matching capacity. For heating only large heat pumps are marginally cost effective in many situations. In many industrial applications large heat pumps are highly competitive. Present heat pumps are capable of great improvement in performance.
