THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF CF4 BETWEEN 175 AND 375 K (-98 AND 102 DEG C) AT PRESSURES UP TO 1 MEGAPASCAL DETERMINED FROM THE SPEED OF SOUND.

Summary

THE SOUND SPEED IN THE CF4 GAS WAS MEASURED BETWEEN 175 AND 375 K AND BETWEEN 0.08 AND 1 MEGAPASCAL. THESE MEASUREMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT WITH A SPHERICAL ACOUSTIC RESONATOR WHOSE ACCURACY IS BETTER THAN 0.001%. THE RESULTS WERE USED FOR EVALUATING THE HEAT CAPACITIES OF PERFECT GAS AND THE SECOND AND THIRD ACOUSTIC COEFFICIENTS OF THE CF4 VIRIAL. THE VOLUME VIRIAL COEFFICIENTS, CALCULATED WITH ACOUSTIC MEASUREMENTS, ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH THOSE OF LITERATURE.
