Summary

THERMAL EXPANSION AND ISOTHERMAL COMPRESSIBILITY OF SOLID NORMAL DEUTERIUM ARE MEASURED NEAR THE MELTING LINE UNDER PRESSURES UP TO 500 ATM. THE EFFECTS ARE DISCUSSED WHICH ARE PRODUCED BY ZERO TRANSLATIONAL OSCILLATIONS IN THE THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF DEUTERIUM. THE CHANGE IN THE MOLAR VOLUME IN THE RANGE FROM T = 0 TO THE MELTING TEMPERATURE IS CONSIDERED AS A QUANTUM CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CRYSTAL. THE MOLAR VOLUMES OF SOLID DEUTERIUM OBSERVED AT THE MELTING LINE AT MODERATE PRESSURE ARE COMPARED AND SPECIFIED.
