Summary

X-RAY STUDIES OF THE STRUCTURE, LATTICE PARAMETERS AND THERMAL EXPANSION COEFFICIENTS OF SOLID CH3D, CH2D2 AND CHD3 ARE CARRIED OUT IN THE TEMPERATURE RANGE OF 2 K TO TRANSITION TEMPERATURE. IT IS FOUND THAT THE CRYSTALLOGRAPHIC SYMMETRY OF ORIENTATIONALLY ORDERED PHASES OF METHANE ISOTOPES IS SIMILAR TO THAT OBSERVED IN LOW TEMPERATURE PHASES OF METHANE AND DEUTEROMETHANE. QUANTITATIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ISOTOPIC EFFECT IN MOLAR VOLUMES, THERMAL EXPANSION COEFFICIENTS AND VOLUME JUMPS ARE CALCULATED IN THE PROCESS OF PHASE TRANSITIONS.
