Transcritical cycle for efficient air conditioning and heating.

Author(s) : PEARSON S. F.

Summary

The paper describes how the characteristics of screw or scroll compressors may be used to increase the efficiency of air conditioning systems when using transcritical carbon dioxide as the refrigerant. A new technique for increasing the efficiency of the compression process is also described. It is calculated that efficiency improvements of up to 30% may be achieved by combining the benefits of two stage expansion, ability to use CO2 directly in large coolers and the fusion cooling compression process.
