Summary

A moving-boundary (MB) method is presented to simulate the transient response of an ammonia-water condenser in an absorption heat pump. The approach is compared with a discretized finite volume method. The proposed scheme provides a significant reduction in computational cost because fewer states are computed as compared to the conventional discretization methods. This modeling approach can significantly improve analysis and design of absorption heat pump control systems. The solver is designed to be robust enough to handle the disappearance and re-appearance of different zones during transient phenomena in the heat
exchanger, and adapt the equation structure to facilitate stable computations.
