Two-phase refrigerant distribution in a microchannel manifold.

Summary

This paper presents an experimental investigation of two-phase flow distribution in a microchannel manifold. This horizontally oriented, transparent manifold (ID= 20 mm) distributed two-phase refrigerant to a linear array of 15 microchannels. Flow through the microchannels was in the downward direction. To better understand the governing factors of distribution within the manifold, both geometrical considerations (microchannel protrusion and into the manifold length from expansion device) and flow characteristics (inlet quality and mass flux) were considered. Refrigerant R-134a was used as the working fluid.
