Summary

TWO-STAGE COMPRESSOR SYSTEMS USING R22 HAVE BEEN THE NORM FOR COLD STORAGE OF TUNA, BUT THE DEMAND FOR LOWER TEMPERATURES HAS MEANT INCREASES IN VOLUMETRIC RATIOS AND A RESULTANT ENLARGEMENT OF COMPRESSOR SIZE. IN JUNE 1987, A FROZEN TUNA COLD STORAGE FACILITY UTILIZING DUAL REFRIGERATION UNIT, USING R13 ON THE LOW TEMPERATURE SIDE WAS A RETROFIT TO AN EXISTING COLD STORAGE REFRIGERATION PLANT. THE RETROFIT SYSTEM PROVIDES A 33% REDUCTION IN POWER CONSUMPTION WHILE PROVIDING A COLD STORAGE TEMPERATURE OF 213 K (-60 DEG C).
