TWO-STAGE EXPANSION FOR IMPROVED COST EFFICIENCY OF A RANKINE HEAT PUMP CYCLE.

Author(s) : RIJ M. L. D. van

Summary

THE SAVINGS THAT COULD BE MADE BY TWO-STAGE EXPANSION IN A RANKINE CYCLE WERE TESTED BOTH FOR HEAT PUMPS FOR HEATING AND THE SYSTEMS OPERATING UNDER STEADY CONDITIONS. DEPENDING ON THE TEMPERATURE OF THE EVAPORATOR AND THE CONDENSER, IT IS POSSIBLE TO SAVE 4 TO 20% OF SHAFT POWER. FOR GAS DRIVEN HEAT PUMP, USING AIR AS THE HEAT SOURCE, IT IS POSSIBLE TO REDUCE THE PRIMARY ENERGY REQUIRED PER KILOJ OF HEAT PRODUCTION FROM 1/1.495 TO 1/1.592.
