Summary
In the last 20 years due to new building practices, it has been possible to reduce the heating energy demand to about 10% of the present heating energy consumption. These improved building practices mean that new buildings are of a higher standard than required by law. Three new building concepts are compared with the results from measurements made on 118 demonstration projects that have been evaluated by the Fraunhofer Institute of Building Physics. The studies have shown that the air change rate is dependent on the occupant regardless if opening windows or ventilation systems are used.
