Ultrasound monitoring of flowing R134a and R600a inside a refrigerant circuit.

Author(s) : MONTICELLI E., PECORARI C., MERLI F., et al.

Summary

The equipment utilizes ultrasonic waves and temperature measurements to detect liquid accumulation of the refrigerant in points of particular interests within the evaporator and at the expansion device inlet. In correspondence of the accumulation points, the time of flight of the ultrasound waves inside the cavity is measured and therefore the temporal evolution of the refrigerating system in terms of oil/refrigerant mixture is given. The relationship between concentration, speed of sound and temperature has been determined for R134a and R600a.
