Summary

Describes the new, 3,000 m2 Elizabeth Fry Building at the University of East Anglia, which uses hollow-core concrete floor slabs to cool the structure in summer and heat it in winter. The building uses the Termodeck system. In the lecture theatres, outside air runs through the ceilings at night. These act as cool radiant surfaces with an increased capacity to absorb heat and damp short-term temperature fluctuations. For heating, warm air at 35 deg C from four 24 kilowatts condensing boilers can be run through slabs. Illustrates the system in diagrams and supplies costs in a table.
