Unlined concrete LNG tanks. Invitation to join permeability testing and numerical modelling program.

Type of monograph: Other

Summary

The American Concrete Institute (ACI) recognizes the use of concrete for primary containment of LNG without the metallic liners that have hitherto been incorporated. Arup Energy has developed an all-concrete LNG tank design, in line with ACI's requirements, in order to offer more rapid construction using cheaper materials without compromising the levels of safety offered by conventional full-containment tanks. Extract from the table of contents: the need for cryogenic testing; background to the joint industry project (JIP); proposed JIP team; commercial arrangements; proposed scope of work (cryogenic tesing: planning phase; concrete casting, curing and cutting; permeability testing at cryogenic temperatures; process modelling; properties of concrete; data analysis and reporting).
