Update on heat pumps.
Le point sur les thermopompes.
Author(s) : BERNIER J.
Summary
To limit the greenhouse effect and prevent environmental disaster, it has become essential to save energy. The heat pump appears to be one of the most realistic ways of doing so. The technology of components has greatly improved, in particular with the use of scroll compressors. Ground-source heat pumps are expanding rapidly: a plant coupled with a heating and cooling floor is described. The characteristics of R22 substitutes are compared for COP, global warming potential, toxicity, flammability and explosiveness. The success of a heat pump installation requires that design, manufacture, and operation be carried out by recognised competent professionals.
