Author(s) : CAVALIER G., DEVIN E., MARCY M., SUQUET T., FERTEL C.

Summary

Refrigerated transport remain a key segment of the cold chain from farm to fork. Refrigerated transport strongly developed and changed along the last century. Nevertheless, a lot of countries in the world still suffer from the lack of refrigerated transport equipment, its inadequacy to the needs of the country or its lack of performances, generating cold chain breaks. These breaks result in perishables food losses or even sometimes in sanitary crisis.
The authors present the current state of the refrigerated transport equipment fleet and its evolution over recent decades. Drawing on data from refrigerated transport equipment databases, their analysis—from both technical and economic perspectives—provides an updated quantitative and qualitative overview of the fleet, building on the regular publications by experts on this topic over the past century.
