Summary
In 1996, a project aiming to disseminate the application of ammonia in small refrigeration systems started in Denmark. According to initial market research, the market potential in Denmark lies within 15 to 90,000 refrigeration systems, categorised as small or medium-sized storage rooms in retail trade where retrofitting or replacement of systems will be required sooner or later. During the project, various problems connected with using ammonia for small split-systems were examined. The paper presents experiences and laboratory test results, which show that there are acceptable solutions to most of these problems.
