Summary
Frost formation and accumulation in evaporators of refrigeration equipment and heat pumps exert a negative effect on the coefficient of performance and on seasonal efficiencies. The paper explains the effects on frost formation and build-up (both suppression and/or promotion) that can be obtained with the use of an electric field. It presents the experimental apparatus and ongoing research at the CAR Lab of the Politecnico di Milano with the aim of verifying the potential benefits and disadvantages of the new technique. The first experimental data are presented and discussed.
