Summary
Shell and tube gives way to plate heat exchangers in the market place, when the advantages such as low refrigerant volume, low weight and low pressure drop of the coolant, especially at low temperature are considered. Many plate heat exchangers are now used in indirect systems associated with ammonia using this fully welded "Q-PLATE" heat exchanger.
