Using air for cooling.

Summary

Using air as refrigerant has enormous advantages over conventional refrigerants, many of which have harmful environment effects, are flammable or are toxic. However, the use of air for main-stream refrigeration in buildings has been held back by the low perceived energy efficiency of air cycle systems. The paper reviews what is believed to be the world's first integrated air cycle system for heating and cooling in buildings, developed by BRE and FRPERC; this system overcomes the low energy efficiency of cooling-only systems.
