Using low pressure receivers.

Summary

The author describes some devices which are used especially in ammonia refrigerating installations, including a large expanded-liquid receiver. This reservoir plays several roles. It protects the compressors from liquid slugging, it allows sub-cooling of the liquid leaving the condenser and makes it possible to eliminate the high-pressure ammonia receiver. And, finally, it makes pump feeding of liquid ammonia to the evaporators possible. Different diagrams are proposed and discussed.
