Modified formulas computing the volume and diameter of low-pressure liquid receivers in an ammonia refrigerating system.

Author(s) : YE W., YANG F.

Summary

After surveying and testing a number of representative ammonia refrigerating systems for frozen food processing in China and calculated with proper mathematic models, a vapour separating velocity of 0.5-1.0 m/s in low-pressure liquid receiver and liquid content of 20% in the two-phase flow in vapour returning line are recommended to be adopted under the working condition that the evaporating temperature is -10/-40°C and the normal circulation ratio of ammonia pump is four times, with the maximum limit of eight times. Diameter and volume of the low-pressure receivers could be reduced greatly (about by 50%), by using the new calculation parameters. The refrigerating system will become more compact, which will save much investment in capital construction.
