VEHICLE WIDTH UPDATE.

Author(s) : BERRIDGE P.

Type of article: Article

Summary

THE AUTHOR POINTS OUT THE PROBLEMS BROUGHT ABOUT BY THE RECENT EEC DIRECTIVE 86/364 PROOF OF COMPLIANCE PLATES WHICH IT IS ADVISORY FOR INSULATED VEHICLES TO CARRY IN ORDER TO FACILITATE INTERSTATE TRANSPORT WITHIN THE EEC. UNFORTUNATELY THE PRESENT WIDTH MAXIMUMS VARY FROM COUNTRY TO COUNTRY, AND VEHICLE WIDTH MUST BE STATED ON THE PLATES. THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS A NEW EEC WIDTH STANDARD IS ABOUT TO BE AGREED, BUT THIS MAY BE LESS THAN THE UK MAXIMUM OF 2.58 M. D.W.H.
