Summary

The vertical dispersion of 100 adults of Sitophilus granarius was studied in a 486 mm high wheat column flushed with different low oxygen modified atmospheres at 20 more or less 1 deg C and 76% relative humidity. Flushing the column from above caused stronger weevil migration than purging from below. It is concluded that provided good modified atmosphere practice is carried out, resulting in sufficiently low oxygen contents in all parts of the treated grain store, the probability for the development of protective barrier patterns should be low.
