Waste heat driven adsorption heat pump and ice maker.

Author(s) : WANG R., WU J., XU Y.

Summary

Various adsorption refrigeration and heat pump systems have been developed and tested, the typical prototypes are: 1) an adsorption heat pump driven by 100 °C heat source, it has a heating efficiency of COA= 1.4 and specific heating power of SHP= 300-500 W/kg when the temperature lift is about 30-40 °C, its COP for air conditioning is about 0.4 and specific cooling power is about 150 W/kg; 2) a zeolite-water adsorption air-conditioning system for locomotive cabin: a real 5 kW cooling system has been installed in a locomotive cabin driven by the diesel exhausted fume gas; 3) an adsorption ice maker (with two 60 kg activated carbon adsorbers) driven by the waste fume gases from a diesel engine, its refrigeration COP is higher than 0.1, while the ice making speed is about 20 kg ice/hr. The research shows that adsorption systems are reasonable for real applications in waste heat recovery and utilization.
