Summary

This course is Level 1 of the Water Treatment Service Providers Training Program. It has been designed to be used in conjunction with "The water treatment application manual - DA18" (see the Bulletin of the IIR, reference 1997-2566). The course has been designed as self-paced so that, regardless of location and work commitments, one can work through the topics at his own pace. Topics: overview of the need for water treatment; safety in water treatment; the characteristics and chemistry of water (water composition; factors affecting water quality); overview of cooling water systems (types, corrosion, scaling and fouling, microbial growth, Legionella, regulatory approaches to control Legionella); understanding control methods; maintenance, sampling, testing and recording. The document also includes: a guide to developing risk management plans for cooling tower systems; code of practice for water treatment service providers (cooling tower systems); the water treatment application manual.
