Wet compression versus dry compression in heat pumps working with pure refrigerants.

Type of article: Article

Summary

From the 13 pure refrigerants analysed, four are shown to gain from using a wet compression process: R11, R152a, NH3 and n-pentane. Wet compression leads to maximum COPs for quite a few of the applications. Apart from the fact that higher COPs are now possible for some applications, it also allows for CFCs and HCFCs to be replaced by refrigerants that are less harmful to the environment, without a loss in efficiency.
