Summary

TO INCREASE RACKED STORAGE IN AN EXISTING COLD STORE, A MOBILE RACK SYSTEM IS REQUIRED TO DECREASE TO ONE THE NUMBER OF AISLES. TO INCREASE FLOOR THICKNESS TO TAKE EXTRA LOADS OR TO TAKE FLUSH RAILS FOR WHEELED RACKS REQUIRES A RISE TO CONCRETE CASTING TEMPERATURES -A SLOW AND COSTLY PROCESS. EXPERIMENTS CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE FLOOR STRENGTH TO TAKE A WHEEL ON FLOOR/RAIL ON RACK SYSTEM SHOWED THAT AT 243 K (-30 DEG C) CONCRETE INCREASES ITS COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH 100% AND POLYSTYRENE 25 TO 30% COMPARED WITH NORMAL AMBIENT. ON THE OTHER HAND CORK HAS DECREASING STRENGTH AT LOWER TEMPERATURES. D.W.H.
