AHRI releases latest US heating and cooling equipment shipment data

AHRI provides monthly data on heating and cooling equipment shipped by US manufacturers in the US market.

The Air-conditioning, Heating and refrigeration Institute (AHRI), an IIR member, provides monthly data on the volume of heating and cooling equipment shipped by U.S. manufacturers into the U.S. market. The data provided covers the two months prior to the month of release (i.e. the data for September 2021 was released in November 2021).

Their latest shipment data report covered the month of October 2021, with year-to-date comparisons with October 2020.

According to AHRI, U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totalled 791,321 units in October 2021, down 4.9 % from 831,668 units shipped in October 2020. Year-to-date combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps have increased by 9.0 % compared to the number of units shipped during the same period in 2020. Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners increased by 5.8 %, while year-to-date shipments of heat pump increased by  14.6 %.

The AHRI statistics team defines a shipment as when a unit transfers ownership; a consignment is not a transfer of ownership. Industry data is aggregated from the information supplied by AHRI member companies that participate in the statistics program and can be subject to revision. AHRI’s 300+ member companies account for more than 90 % of the residential and commercial air conditioning, space heating, water heating, and commercial refrigeration equipment manufactured and sold in North America.
