Germany: refrigerant containment survey

According to a VDKF recent survey, since 2012, there has been a significant advance in improving refrigerant containment in air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.
The results were evaluated using the Leakage and Energy Control (LEC) system software developed by VDKF and based on 86,000 operating systems involving 1,600 tons of refrigerants. The most impressive improvement was in the retail sector where emission rate fell from 6.1% in 2012 to 3.7% in 2014.

Split air conditioners and variable refrigerant flow systems registered the lowest rates of all at 1% and less. Total consumption of HFCs in Germany in 2014 was about 9,300 tons, of which 79% in refrigeration applications.
