LNG ships are gaining traction!

According to figures collected by DNV, more than 50 orders for LNG-fuelled ships were placed at the world level in April 2022, followed by 30 orders in May. The second quarter of 2022 is therefore already the strongest ever, according to the classification society.

A total of 151 orders have been placed since the beginning of this year, which represents almost one fifth of the total order book (805). These sales are mainly in the segment of container ships (175 ships), car carriers (95), oil tankers (crude and refined products, 88) and bulk carriers (44). In addition, the “ready for LNG” configuration has been optioned in 229 other contracts.

Still according to DNV, 295 LNG ships are already in service, while 38 LNG bunkering ships are operating worldwide (18 have been ordered since the beginning of the year).
