Member news: Danfoss is committed to reducing food waste

The Salling Group and Danfoss are working with Microsoft to reduce food waste and energy consumption in retail refrigeration.

From this year, three major groups will work together to reduce the energy consumption of refrigeration equipment in food retail. The Salling Group has stores in Denmark. Its refrigeration systems will be equipped with Danfoss refrigeration performance monitoring tools based on Microsoft technologies.

This system, called AIsense, triggers an alarm if the doors of the refrigerated display cases are not closed, and ensures constant monitoring of the condition of the foodstuffs. This helps to reduce energy consumption.

The Salling Group was one of the first to use CO2 as a refrigerant in its display cabinets, and its collaboration with Danfoss dates back to the 1980s.

Danfoss has been working with Microsoft since 2019 to combine its industry expertise with Microsoft's scalable and secure cloud platform.

Danfoss is a corporate member of the IIR.
