There are several museums dedicated to the refrigeration in the United States:
- The “Refrigeration Research Museum”, located in Brighton, Michigan, has a large private collection of artifacts tracing the history of commercial and residential refrigeration from the late 19th century to 1960.
- The John Gorrie Museum in Florida displays a replica of one of the first ice making machines designed by engineer John Gorrie. In 1851, he received the first American patent concerning mechanical refrigeration.
- In Pennsylvania, the Antique Ice Tool Museum is dedicated to the history of the natural ice trade. It presents a collection of tools, ice boxes or refrigerated vehicles. Recently, the museum received a new addition to its collection: a 40-ton ice refrigerated wagon, which was used by the “Pacific Fruit Express”. Refrigerated ice wagons were used to transport meat, dairy products or fruit across different states, replenishing their ice reserves through ice production stations located every 400 to 650 kilometers.
