In France, as of 1 July 2015 the owners of geothermal systems “of minimal importance” will have access to a simplified declaration procedure. This aims at assisting the expected development of heat pumps in the most suitable manner.
The decree on geothermal systems "of minimal importance" was published in the French Government’s “Journal Officiel” on 10 January 2015. The law stipulates that, among low-temperature geothermal reservoirs, those that have no significant impact on the environment are considered as minimally important.
Low-temperature (i.e. under 150°C) geothermal reservoirs “of minimal importance” are generally installations implemented in homes and small building plots, using a heat pump.
The text is claimed to concern 6000 new installations per annum in France.
