Papua New Guinea joins global effort against climate change as 163rd country to ratify the Kigali Amendment
This November, Papua New Guinea ratified the Kigali Amendment which will enter into force in February 2025.
On November 12, 2024, Papua New Guinea ratified the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. The Amendment shall enter into force for Papua New Guinea on 10 February 2025.
As a party to Group 1 of Article 5 of the Kigali Amendment, Papua New Guinea is required to freeze HFC production by 2024 and reduce its HFC consumption by 80% by 2045, compared to its average HFC consumption from 2020 to 2022. Papua New Guinea is also required to reduce its HCFC consumption by 65% compared to its baseline average consumption in 2009 and 2010.
