Positive results for HFC consumption in France in 2020

According to data from the French industry association Snefcca, HFC consumption in France in 2020 was below the limit imposed by the UE F-Gas Regulation.

According to Snefcca (the French national union of refrigeration, kitchen equipment and air conditioning companies), the consumption of HFC refrigerants over the period 2018-2020 was on average 43% (in tonnes of CO2 equivalent) compared to the baseline period (2009-2012). In 2020, the ratio was actually 34%. This is a positive result as the EU "F-Gas" Regulation n° 517/2014 imposed a maximum consumption of 63% of refrigerants (in tonnes of CO2 equivalent) over this period compared to the baseline.

According to Snefcca, this encouraging finding comes as a result of good practices applied by the industry in choosing appropriate solutions for the collection, analysis and recycling of refrigerants.

In order to reach the upcoming objectives for the period 2021-2023, all the players involved in the industry will have to mobilise to change their practices, namely by upgrading their equipment to low global warming potential (GWP) working fluids.
