Taiwan adopts new regulations on HFCs to comply with the Kigali Amendment

Taiwan’s Ministry of the Environment introduces new regulations to restrict the production and export of HFCs.

On February 25, Taiwan’s Ministry of Environment (MOENV) announced two sets of regulations aimed at reducing the use of HFCs, in line with the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. The new rules, effective this year, include an immediate ban on the production of 18 types of HFCs and require import and export approvals starting July 1.

The regulations set a cap on annual HFC consumption and outline a gradual reduction, with the goal of cutting usage by over 80% by the late 2040s.

These measures reaffirm Taiwan’s commitment to combating climate change and aligning with global efforts to protect the environment.
