2000-2004: renaissance of CO2 as refrigerant for industrial refrigeration systems.
Author(s) : GEBHARDT H.
Summary
This paper presents background and reasons for the impressive success story of CO2-NH3 refrigeration in the food industry. The renaissance of this technology was brought about by the necessary phase-out of CFC and HCFC refrigerants due to the Montreal Protocol (1987) and the Kyoto Protocol (1997). Important historical, technical and operational aspects of the CO2-NH3 technology are discussed from an end user's point of view.
