Summary

THE HEAT PUMP HAS HAD A HIGH DEGREE OF AVAILABILITY. IN 1983 THE HEAT PUMP PRODUCED 25.6 GWH WITH AN AVERAGE COP OF 2.6. THE TIME OPERATION DURING THE YEAR WAS 8,156 HOURS. CAPACITY MEASUREMENTS HAVE SHOWN THAT THE EFFLUENT (DOMESTIC SEWAGE WATER AFTERCLEANING) HAS NOT CAUSED MAJOR FOULING OF THE EVAPORATOR. HOWEVER, THE WATER SPRAY TUBE WAS PRONE TO BLOCKAGE BY THE UNEXPECTEDLY LARGE NUMBER OF SOLID PARTICLES IN THE PURIFIED EFFLUENT. MEASUREMENTS OF THE ZINC COATING THICKNESS SHOW THAT THE RATE OF CORROSION IN THE GALVANIZED EVAPORATOR IS VERY LOW. ANALYSES OF WATER HAVE SHOWN THAT THE WATER SHOULD BE CORROSIVE TO ZINC AND IRON. COMPARATIVE MATERIAL TESTS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT USING U-TUBES OF DIFFERENT MATERIALS MOUNTED ON THE EVAPORATOR. ONLY UNTREATED STEEL HAS HAD AN APPRECIABLE AMOUNT OF CORROSION. (SYNOP. SWED. BUILD.
