Summary

A novel technology on plate heat exchanger was introduced. Heat transfer and pressure loss were investigated with water flow through dimple plate and herringbone plate as well as R410A flow boiling and condensing. Experiments on three kinds of plate patterns (one herringbone plate, one normal dimple plate and one novel dimple plate) were performed based on given heat flux (6~14 kW/m2), comparatively. Test results with single phase flow and condenser showed that two given dimple plates have high heat transfer efficiency with low pressure loss under same conditions and capacity due to unique channel and cell design. For evaporator application, the normal dimple plate becomes worse due to poor refrigerant distribution over plate surface compared with herringbone plate. However, the unique dimple plate achieved extremely good performance with low pressure loss due to good distribution and high efficiency of heat transfer cell. In addition, the dimple plate can provide more flexible and specified design according to application condition from customers.
