Summary
The equations governing the variation of total pressure and velocity along the axis of a duct that exhibits leakage were derived and solved numerically. Duct performance was found to depend on two dimensionless constants. Input to the model is the desired supply/return flow rate and pressure. The model calculates the required total pressure and velocity in the duct adjacent to the fan or upstream fitting; hence, it is useful in design applications. Model results were presented in terms of characteristic performance curves. Model predictions are found to compare favourably to a case presented previously in the literature.
