Summary

THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY IS TO OBTAIN PRACTICAL GUIDELINES FOR DESIGN AND OPERATION OF INDUSTRIAL FREEZE-DRIER CONDENSER. THE MAIN EXPERIMENTAL METHOD OF THIS STUDY IS TO OBSERVE THE ICE BUILD-UP GROWING ON THE CONDENSER PLATES. THE AIR INTRODUCED TO REGULATE THE VACUUM ACCUMULATES THE FROST NEAR TO THE VAPOR INLET. IF THE PARTIAL AIR PRESSURE IS NEGLIGIBLY SMALL, THE FRONTAL ICE BUILD-UP ON THE CONDENSER BECOMES REMARKABLE AS THE CONDENSER TEMPERATURE IS LOWER. WHEN THE VAPOR INLET IS SMALLER THAN THE FRONT AREA OF CONDENSER PLATES ARRAY, THE VAPOR FLOW DOES NOT EXTEND EVENLY, BUT CONCENTRATES AROUND THE CENTER PORTION OF THE FRONT AREA. THIS TREND IS CONSPICUOUS AS THE CONDENSER TEMPERATURE IS LOWER.
