A LATE DISCOVERY: SUPERCONDUCTING CERAMICS.
UNE DECOUVERTE RECENTE : LES CERAMIQUES SUPRACONDUCTRICES.

Summary
REVIEW PAPER ON THE RESEARCH ON HIGH TRANSITION TEMPERATURE SU PERCONDUCTING MATERIALS (23.3 K UNTILL 1986 FOR NIOBIUM-GERMANIUM THIN FILMS). AT PRESENT, EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES SHOW THAT COMPLEXOXIDES OF COPPER, BARYUM OR STRONTIUM AND YTTRIUM, LANTHANUM OR LANTHANIDES SHOW SUPERCONDUCTING PROPERTIES AT 75 K (WITH LANTHANUM) AND 91 K (WITH YTTRIUM). EXPERIMENTAL EXPLORATION IS NEEDED FOR A BETTER THEORETICAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE PHYSICAL PHENOMENA, BUT THAT MEANS IT IS POSSIBLE TO GET GOOD QUALITY AND WELL CHARACTERIZED MONOCRYSTALS. J. V.
