Summary

DISCOVERY OF MIXED VALENCE TERNARY OXIDES OF COPPER, WITH PEROVSKITE STRUCTURE, WHICH SHOW SUPERCONDUCTING PROPERTIES TILL 40 K. REASONS WHY THESE OXIDES HAVE BEEN CHOOSEN AS EXPERIMENTAL MATERIALS. THEIR CHARACTERISTICS AND CRISTALLOGRAPHIC STRUCTURES. VARIATION OF RESISTIVITY AND MAGNETIC SUSCEPTIBILITY WITH TEMPERATURE FOR COPPER + LANTHANUM + BARYUM OXIDES CONTAINING VARIOUS CONCENTRATIONS OF LANTHANUM. EXTENSION OF THE PRESENT STUDIES TO STRONTIUM < DOPED >OXIDES. THERE IS SOME HOPE TO GET STILL HIGHER CRITICAL TEMPERATURES (BETWEEN 125 AND 350 K FOLLOWING CALCULATIONS USING BCS THEORY). J. V.
