A methodology for defect detection in heat pumps.

Author(s) : RAEBER R.

Summary

The goal of defect detection is to identify performance degradation in HVAC plants. The method presented in the paper has been developed for vapour compression equipment, but it may also be applicable to other types of plants, e.g. cogeneration plants. The defect detection method presented here makes use of the plant's dynamic behaviour during start-up, which is characteristic for normal as well as for faulty operation. Measured signals from the plant are transformed into operation patterns by means of spectral analysis. During the training phase the operation patterns for normal and various faulty operation behaviours are determined. In the operation phase the current operation pattern is determined and compared with the known patterns.
